Not to be biased, but personal 9 years of experience tell me that if a program has a landing page "oh yeah, and for linux and mac too", it looks shit on mac. If it feels like you’re using up more data than you should on a monthly basis, Little Snitch can provide some insight. On the right-hand side is the summary which shows your overall data upload and download numbers. It also shows some statistics that highlight which connections are sending and receiving the most data. LS4 has had a few private betas up until now, but it's in public beta at this point and some of the new stuff they've been working on is pretty interesting. Their main landing page has been updated for LS4 [1] and has a nice general summary of new features with screenshots, but trying to submit that link just goes back to the HN discussion on LS3 five months back [2]. The What's New is more detailed. I'm particularly curious how their improved Research Assistant 2.0 will turn out. They're making an effort to open it up and turn LS4 into a bit more of a platform, allowing 3rd party devs to make specific descriptive information available: Aside from blocking unwanted telemetry, I have multiple profiles that I switch between depending on the network I'm connected to. If I'm tethered to my phone, I restrict almost all traffic unless it's something I'm using so I can conserve data. The profile assigned to my home network is a lot more open. A prescriptive signature-based black list, as you point out, is easily fooled with simple obscurity. Manually Creating Rules

Price: Murus comes in three versions: Murus Lite (Free), Murus Basic ($10), and Murus Pro ($17). While Murus lite is the free version of the application, Murus Basic and Murus Pro are the paid versions that come packed with some extra features like logs Visualizer, Vallum, and all companion apps.
My problem with Little Snitch is that it throws too much information at me, or it's better to say that I care too much for the information that it provides (and it provides a lot of information). What I would like to see is exactly what you said, a preset that would disable everything besides browser and what I initiate.
In the Logs folder find the DiagnosticReports subfolder, select and delete “Little Snitch Network ” file.
Yes, I worked on a product with a DLP feature we touted yet it would fail to identify credit cards if you put extra characters between sets of numbers.
I don't run anything like this on my Linux box (just standard iptables), but I was looking for something like this for Windows a while back. The only thing I've really found is Windows 10 Firewall Control:
Does anyone know a similar utility for Ubuntu/Linux systems? Paid or free, doesn't matter.
The sample we examined is an installer of a popular firewall app for Mac and Windows called Little Snitch, available for download from various torrent websites. Names of the compiled Windows executable are as follows:
Still, the discovery underscores the cat-and-mouse game that plays out almost endlessly between hackers and developers. As soon as developers devise a new way to protect users, hackers look for ways to get around it. When hackers are successful, developers then introduce a fix that remains in place until hackers find a new way to skirt the protection.
